Yes. Once you’re a member of HOSTPLUS, we go where you go, even if you change jobs or move out of the industry.

Simply give your new employer your HOSTPLUS member number and ask them to provide it along with your name, address, Tax File Number and date of birth when they make their super payment for you.

If your employer isn’t a registered HOSTPLUS employer, they may require you to provide them with a Standard Choice Form – just add your name, HOSTPLUS member number and signature and pass it on to them.

The purpose of super is to save for retirement; therefore legislation is designed to limit the circumstances in which superannuation money is paid for any other reason.

There are some ways you may be able to access your super early if you qualify:

• Financial hardship -  subject to certain conditions and trustee approval
• Compassionate grounds -  as approved by the Department of Human Services (DHS)
• Leaving Australia permanently - if you are an eligible temporary resident or on complying with any other condition of release specified under superannuation law.

HOSTPLUS educates employers about the SG legislation and we encourage employers to meet their obligations, but we cannot act on your behalf if they’re not paying your super. 

If you believe your employer may not be paying enough super, or any super, here’s what to do:

1. Double check with us. You can do this by checking your last member statement or contacting us. 
2. Speak to your employer. Ask them how often they are currently paying your super, which fund they are paying it to (as it may not be HOSTPLUS), and how much they are paying. It’s a good idea to ask these sorts of questions when you first start work with an employer. 
3. Call the ATO. If you still have no success, you can call the Tax Office Superannuation Hotline on 13 10 20 and they will begin an investigation. Find out more about that process here.
