As a dedicated Industry SuperFund for hospitality, tourism, recreation, and of course sport, Hostplus has consistently championed the sporting industry for more than 30 years. Hostplus understand super, we understand service, and, more importantly, we understand your industry, your values, and what matters most to you at AFL.
The AFL’s superannuation partnership with Hostplus will begin on 28 February 2020. This means that from 28 February 2020 onwards, the superannuation guarantee (SG) contributions the AFL makes on your behalf (currently 9.5% of your ordinary time earnings) will be paid to Hostplus unless you tell the AFL to pay SG contributions to another super fund or have previously chosen another super fund and don’t choose to come to Hostplus.
For further information please keep reading or contact Hostplus Account Manager, Stefan Zubielevitch on SZubielevitch@Hostplus.com.au or 0410 609 483.
The AFL and Hostplus are excited to partner together to make a tailored superannuation offering available to AFL employees. Here’s just a few of the benefits that will be offered by Hostplus to AFL staff under the new arrangement:
If you did not previously instruct the AFL to pay SG contributions to any particular super fund, you are classified as an AMP Default member. As an AMP default member, to have the AFL pay future SG contributions to Hostplus, you don’t need to do anything. This is because the AFL is changing its default fund to Hostplus and this means that from 28 February 2020, the AFL will automatically pay SG contributions to Hostplus on behalf of all AMP default fund members who do not choose another super fund.
To choose another super fund (other than Hostplus) or stay with AMP, download this Superannuation Standard Choice Form (Choice Form) to your desktop and email a completed copy of the Choice Form nominating your chosen fund to the AFL at: email@example.com by 3 February 2020.
If do not choose another super fund you will become a member of Hostplus once the AFL starts paying SG contributions to Hostplus on your behalf (from 28 February 2020). After Hostplus receives your first contribution we will contact you via email to help you access your online account and assist you in making an informed decision about your superannuation arrangements. This may include the consolidation of any other super account(s), including any current AFL default super account you have with AMP.
If you have previously completed a Superannuation Standard Choice Form (Choice Form) nominating a super fund of your choice and provided it to the AFL (you most likely would have done this when you commenced employment with the AFL) you have been deemed as having selected your own super fund. Your choice of fund election will remain in place unless you decide to change it. You can change your super fund at any time by submitting a new Choice Form to the AFL.
If you’d like the AFL to continue to pay SG contributions to your existing fund, you don’t need to do anything. AFL will continue to pay SG contributions into your current fund as normal.
If you'd like the AFL to pay future SG contributions to Hostplus on your behalf from 28 February 2020 onwards you can do this by following these steps:
As an existing Hostplus member, the AFL already pays SG contributions to Hostplus on your behalf. However, the Hostplus superannuation product that you currently hold does not provide access to the tailored insurance offering which the AFL has negotiated with Hostplus – this is only available to members of the AFL arrangements within the Hostplus Superannuation Fund – Executive product (AFL arrangements). If you want to access the tailored insurance arrangements, you must switch from your current Hostplus product to the AFL arrangements by completing a Superannuation Standard Choice Form (Choice Form). You are not required to switch Hostplus products, however Hostplus cannot offer you the AFL arrangements if you do not switch.
As you have previously selected Hostplus as your super fund, that election will remain in place unless you decide to change it. You can switch to the tailored insurance offering or choose another super fund at any time by submitting a new Choice Form to the AFL. However, please note that if you join outside of the initial 90 day window there will additional underwriting requirements in relation to accessing the tailored insurance arrangements.
If you’d like the AFL to continue to pay SG contributions to your existing Hostplus product, you don’t need to do anything. AFL will continue to pay SG contributions into your current account with Hostplus as usual.
To switch from your existing Hostplus product to the tailored AFL arrangements from 28 February 2020 onwards you should:
You should read the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) available at hostplus.com.au before making a decision about whether to switch. If you are unsure about whether or not you should be taking any action, you should seek independent financial advice.
Following a comprehensive review of the AFL’s superannuation arrangements, we are pleased to announce that from 28 February 2020 the AFL will be partnering with Hostplus as their default superannuation provider for AFL employees.
Hostplus is the national superannuation fund for those that live and love Australian hospitality, tourism, recreation and sport. Hostplus was established over 30 years ago in 1988 and is one of Australia’s largest super funds with over 1.2 million members, and more than $50 billion funds under management at December 2019.
With a shared heritage in and passion for all things sport, Hostplus understand super and service, but more importantly we understand AFL’s industry, values, and what matters most to AFL staff.
The AFL and Hostplus are excited to partner together, and to provide AFL staff access to this tailored superannuation offering. Here’s just a few of the benefits that will be offered by Hostplus to AFL staff under this new arrangement:
Hostplus will become the AFL’s default superannuation provider as of 28 February 2020.
This means that from that date onwards, the superannuation guarantee (SG) contributions the AFL makes on your behalf (currently 9.5% of your ordinary time earnings) will be paid to Hostplus unless you choose another superannuation fund or have previously chosen another super fund and don’t choose to come to Hostplus.
All AFL staff can choose where they would like the AFL to pay SG contributions from this date by completing a Superannuation Standard Choice Form (Choice Form). The AFL will send you information about where to find a Choice Form and how to complete it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you choose to join Hostplus, any existing superannuation accounts that you have (eg. your AMP account) will not automatically transfer to Hostplus. Shortly after 28 February 2020, Hostplus will be in touch with AFL employees who have joined Hostplus to help them register for online account access. At this time, Hostplus will also offer to assist new members in making an informed decision about consolidating any other superannuation accounts that members may have into one account.

The Putting Members' Interests First (PMIF) legislation is designed to protect members’ account balances from being unnecessarily eroded by inappropriate insurance premiums.
If you come across to Hostplus, you may be entitled to automatic insurance cover commencing 28 February 2020. Please be aware however, if your account balance is less than $6000 on or after 1 November 2019 and remains below $6000 for the entire period up until 1 April 2020, any insurance cover you have will be cancelled on and from 1 April 2020 unless you elect to maintain your cover in writing before 1 April 2020. For information about these changes and how to make an election in writing to maintain insurance cover with Hostplus please go to hostplus.com.au/insurancechanges
This legislation impacts account holders of all super funds. If you have an account with another super fund and your account balance is below $6000 for the relevant period, you may need to take action to retain any insurance you hold with that fund.
