Hostplus | AFL

Meet Hostplus, AFL's new default super fund.

At your service.

As a dedicated Industry SuperFund for hospitality, tourism, recreation, and of course sport, Hostplus Superannuation Fund (Hostplus) has consistently championed the sporting industry for more than 30 years. Hostplus understands super, we understand service, and, more importantly, we understand your industry, your values, and what matters most to you at the AFL.

The AFL’s superannuation partnership with Hostplus will begin on 28 February 2020. This means that from 28 February 2020 onwards, the superannuation guarantee (SG) contributions the AFL makes on your behalf (currently 9.5% of your ordinary time earnings) will be paid to Hostplus unless you tell the AFL to pay SG contributions to another super fund or have previously chosen another super fund and don’t choose to come to Hostplus.

For further information please keep reading. Alternatively you can call Hostplus on 1300 467 875 or email your Hostplus Account Manager, Stefan Zubielevitch at SZubielevitch@Hostplus.com.au

What do you need to do?

If you did not previously instruct the AFL to pay SG contributions to any particular super fund, you are classified as an AMP Default member. As an AMP Default member, to have the AFL pay future SG contributions to Hostplus, you don’t need to do anything. This is because the AFL is changing its default fund to Hostplus and this means that from 28 February 2020, the AFL will automatically pay SG contributions to a Hostplus Superannuation Fund - Executive product account on behalf of all AMP default fund members who do not choose another super fund.

To choose another super fund (other than Hostplus) or stay with AMP, download this Superannuation Standard Choice Form (Choice Form) to your desktop and email a completed copy of the Choice Form nominating your chosen fund to the AFL at: super@afl.com.au.

If you have previously completed a Superannuation Standard Choice Form (Choice Form) nominating a super fund of your choice and provided it to the AFL (you most likely would have done this when you commenced employment with the AFL), you are deemed as having selected your own super fund. Your choice of fund election will remain in place unless you decide to change it. You can change your choice of super fund at any time by submitting a new Choice Form to the AFL.

If you’d like the AFL to continue to pay SG contributions to your existing fund, you don’t need to do anything. AFL will continue to pay SG contributions into your current fund as normal.

If you'd like the AFL to pay future SG contributions to Hostplus Superannuation Fund - Executive on your behalf from 28 February 2020 onwards you can do this by following these steps:

  1. download this Choice Form to your desktop
  2. close your Internet browser
  3. open the document from your desktop
  4. complete the form (refer to Part B of the Choice Form for fund details) and click the ‘submit’ button to email the form to the AFL at: super@afl.com.au.

As an existing Hostplus member, the AFL already pays SG contributions to Hostplus on your behalf. However, the Hostplus superannuation product that you currently hold does not provide access to the tailored insurance offering which the AFL has negotiated with Hostplus – this is only available to members of the AFL arrangements within the Hostplus Superannuation Fund – Executive product (AFL Arrangements).

Your current Hostplus super arrangements will remain in place unless you decide to change your choice of super fund to specify the AFL Arrangements or choose another super fund. You can change your choice of super fund at any time by submitting a new Choice Form to the AFL.

If you’d like the AFL to continue to pay SG contributions to your existing Hostplus product, you don’t need to do anything. The AFL will continue to pay SG contributions into your current account with Hostplus as usual.

To switch from your existing Hostplus product to the Hostplus Superannuation Fund - Executive product arrangements from 28 February 2020 onwards you should:

  1. download this Choice Form to your desktop
  2. close your Internet browser
  3. open the document from your desktop
  4. complete the form (refer to Part B of the Choice Form for fund details) and click the ‘submit’ button to email the form to the AFL at: super@afl.com.au.

You should read the relevant Product Disclosure Statements (PDS) available at hostplus.com.au before making a decision about whether to switch. If you are unsure about whether or not you should be taking any action, you should seek independent financial advice.

If you decide to switch to the AFL Arrangements we will transfer your existing Hostplus account into the Hostplus Superannuation Fund – Executive product. If you are eligible for cover you will be provided with default Salary Continuance cover and death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover under the AFL Arrangements. Your cover under the AFL Arrangements will commence on the date that the account transfer occurs however, any restrictions, exclusions, loadings or special conditions applying under your previous cover will continue to apply . Any cover you held through your existing Hostplus account will be cancelled when the transfer occurs.

If you hold a higher level of death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover through your existing Hostplus account than you are eligible for under the AFL Arrangements we will provide you with Fixed Cover at your current level of cover on our standard Hostplus Executive terms and conditions - see the Hostplus Executive PDS for information about our standard terms and conditions of cover.

You may want to 'transfer' this cover to your new Hostplus account if you currently have a higher level of cover with AMP than is offered under the default AFL Arrangements (i.e. obtain a similar level of cover in Hostplus). Hostplus will contact you to assist with this transfer once your account and insurance are ready.

If your cover through AMP was above the AAL and/or Hostplus transfer terms:
Hostplus will contact you to support your transition to the new AFL Arrangements.

If you have elected at any stage to lower your cover through AMP:
If you are eligible for cover you will get access to default cover under the AFL Arrangements, which may be higher than your insured amount with AMP.

You can reduce this amount of cover to suit your specific circumstances at any time by contacting us on [insert contact number] or by logging into Member Online at [insert link].

If you had no insurance cover through AMP:
If you are eligible for cover you will get access to default cover under the AFL Arrangements.

You can reduce this amount or opt out of cover entirely should you wish. You can reduce or cancel your cover at any time by contacting us on [insert contact number] or by logging into Member Online at [insert link].

If you did not previously hold Death & TPD and/or Salary Continuance insurance through the AFL arrangements with AMP, Hostplus will provide you with access to the default Death & TPD and/or Salary Continuance cover applicable to your category of membership through your new Hostplus account, noting that you can choose to opt out should you wish.

Please note if you opt out of insurance within 14 days of Hostplus telling you that your cover has commenced, all premiums will be refunded back to the cover commencement date. No cover will then apply for that period.

Cover through Hostplus is subject to terms and conditions and eligibility criteria - for details refer to the Hostplus Executive PDS and the Special Conditions applying to the AFL Arrangements. For information about the Special Conditions applying to the AFL Arrangements refer to [insert relevant heading and/or link].

The Putting Members' Interests First (PMIF) legislation introduced by Federal Government and impacting all super funds, is designed to protect members’ account balances from being unnecessarily eroded by inappropriate insurance premiums.

From 1 April 2020, super funds must not automatically provide members with insurance:

  • where the member's account balance has not reached $6,000 or more on or after 1 November 2019; OR
  • if the member joined the fund on or after 1 April 2020, they are under age 25;

unless the member elects to “opt-in” earlier (ie. they make an election in writing to obtain insurance cover even if their account balance is less than $6,000 on or after 1 November 2019, or they joined the fund on or after 1 April 2020 and are under the age of 25), or an exception applies. For information about these changes please visit hostplus.com.au/insurancechanges.

We know that this is an important decision, so to help you to make an informed choice the AFL have arranged for the team from Hostplus to be available at a number of AFL offices. Session details will be made available to you by email so keep an eye out.
