What is a default fund?
In a nutshell, your default fund is the fund into which you pay your employees’ Super Guarantee (SG) contributions if they don’t already have a fund of their own.
If you’re in an industry with a Modern Award1 , there will be a default fund specified for you in that award. If you’re not sure, do a quick check with the Industry Super's Default Fund Finder to find the industry fund/s listed in your industry's Modern Award.
It’s possible Hostplus may even be a specified fund for the award or agreement your employees are covered by. If you do need to choose a default fund, partnering with Hostplus as your default fund is straightforward.

1 Modern Awards commenced on 1 January 2010 and are industry or occupation-based, and apply to employers and employees who perform work covered by the award. If you are an employer or employee who was operating under a federal award as at 31 December 2009 there is a good chance you are now covered by a modern award.
