You spend all your life working toward your dreams. Our focus is to build safety and security for our families. However, if an accident at work or sudden illness strikes, we can be caught unaware. But there is a way to stay in control.
If you become totally and permanently disabled having the right insurance behind you can provide safety and security for your family during life’s hardest moments.
Helen was a 36 year old mother with three young children when her husband unexpectedly passed away. Naturally, it was a difficult time but she knew that her late husband had insurance with Hostplus so she contacted us to help her make a claim.
Right from the start, Helen was assisted by our dedicated in-house claims team to help her through the process.
She also made an appointment with one of our financial planners who helped her put a long-term plan in place to support herself and her children in the future.
At Hostplus, Terminal Illness cover is included as part of your Death insurance cover. If you become terminally ill, a Terminal Illness benefit will pay you the Death cover amount you are insured for.
Permanent disability affects you in many ways. Having the right cover in place can assist you and your family when you need it the most.
As a Hostplus member you can apply for additional insurance of up to $5 million in TPD cover and an unlimited amount of Death cover1 to help with bills and any changes you may need to make to your home and lifestyle.
TPD cover pays you a lump sum benefit should you suffer an illness or injury that leaves you totally and permanently disabled.
While Hostplus offers Death and TPD insurance cover together, you can apply to have TPD only cover.
If you elect to have TPD only cover, you will not be covered for Death or Terminal Illness, but you may apply for Death cover at any time.
With unitised cover you pay a set price for each unit of cover you hold. The benefit value of each unit changes as you get older. When you join Hostplus as an Industry member, you are provided with automatic unitised Death Only and/or Death & TPD cover depending on your age.
With fixed Death and TPD insurance cover your insured benefit value stays the same. However, at age 61, your TPD benefit will reduce each year by 20% of the cover held at age 60, reaching 20% at age 64 and will remain at this level until cover ceases. The cost will vary depending on your age which means you may pay higher fees as you get older.
Some occupations are ineligible for additional Death and TPD insurance cover. Review our list to see if you need to make alternative insurance arrangements. If you have questions, contact us. We’re here to help.
