Privacy Collection Statement

Why does Hostplus collect your information?


Hostplus collects personal information to administer your member account, to provide related products and services to you (eg, insurance), verify your identity, fraud prevention, improve our products and services, and for marketing purposes. Hostplus also collects personal information for the purposes of assessing applications for employment with Hostplus. We will manage your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.   

If you do not provide us with your personal information, we may not be able to administer your account appropriately or provide you with a product or service, or you may be disadvantaged in some other way (eg, tax consequences if you do not provide your tax file number (TFN)). 

What information do we collect?


The personal information we may collect includes your name, address, date of birth, TFN, contact details, occupation and employment details (including salary) and health information. Personal information also includes your  beneficiary details and any information provided as part of a claim or application. 

How do we collect your information?


We usually collect personal information directly from you. However, in certain circumstances, we may also collect your personal information from third parties such as your employer, your previous superannuation fund, your authorised representative and regulators such as the Australian Taxation Office. 

We may collect this information from you because we are required or authorised by or under an Australian law or a court tribunal order to collect that information. You consent to Hostplus collecting personal information about you, where collecting that information is reasonably necessary for us to perform our functions and obligations as trustee of Hostplus. 

Who do we disclose your personal information to?


We may disclose your information to your employer and to any service provider (including overseas entities) we engage. This includes our administrator, mail houses, auditors, insurers, actuaries, lawyers, anti-money laundering and fraud risk screening service providers and research consultants whom we engage to carry out or assist us to provide your membership benefits, services and products. Your information may also be disclosed to your authorised representatives, other superannuation funds or regulatory bodies to the extent required by law. 

In some cases, we engage third parties to host data (including data in relation to the services we provide) on our behalf. Data may be stored on servers located overseas including in the United States of America, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Netherlands and Ireland. Where information is stored overseas, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient of the data has appropriate safeguards to prevent misuse, loss or unauthorised disclosure in-line with Australian laws and standards.
